Hey, don’t make fun! Those things can bring down goliaths, man. Ah yes, the mighty skilled hunters and their skilled slingshots. You’d think something like this would sound a little scarier in person, huh? Instead, it sounds kinda dorky. Call me “specieist” against lizards if you want. Again, I don’t think they’re going to get wiped out - just decimated, I’m sure - but honestly, I wouldn’t really care if they were wiped out. On paper, this is better than watching Ainz take on generic MMO quests with his sexy maid in order to rank up… but man, I really don’t give a shit about the lizardmen. I honestly don’t know how to feel about that. But yeah, this episode is all about the lizardmen, and next week’s episode is probably going to be all about the lizardmen too. We also see a brief scene between Demiurge and some dandy penguin. We only get to see Cocytus prepare for the upcoming battle. I don’t think Ainz appears for even a single second in this entire episode. Apparently, those guys like to fight, so we’ll probably see a duel between Zaryusu and some lizard dude I don’t remotely care enough about to learn his name. She then cosplays as a bush, and sets off with the guy to go meet the Dragon Tusk Tribe. Instead, they’ll fight with Zaryusu’s tribe. In the end, Lulu convinces her people to abandon their original plan to evacuate. There’s also some revelation about how the Red Eye Tribe resorted to cannibalism, but I’m just like ehhhh… I’ll just say that this mix of serious war planning and goofy romance leaves behind a strange aftertaste. Meanwhile, he’s dropping sweet nothings into her ears like how beautiful she is. Lulu’s tail is thumping away like mad because she’s just so excited by this encounter. At the same time, however, these two are flirting with each other, giving each other those come hither eyes, so on and so forth. If they refuse, well, he and his buddies are just going to have to kill her and her buddies. After all, Zaryusu wants Lulu’s tribe to form an alliance with his tribe. The two of them proceed to discuss highly important matters. I now know what an anime lizardman’s mating call sounds like. And by fall in love, I mean emit a high pitch squeal and immediately offer a marriage proposal. Apparently, she’s super pretty for a lizard, so Zaryusu falls in love with her at first sight. The acting leader of the Red Eye Tribe is Crusch Lulu, a rare albino lizard. So Zaryusu meets up with the Red Eye Tribe, and this is where the episode gets really silly. There’s going to be plenty of food for the remaining survivors! Sheesh, being a lizardman is tough. This resistance against the undead army is thus not such a bad thing after all. So even as Zaryusu prepares to rally the rest of the tribes against the undead army, he and his brother acknowledge that a food shortage would’ve eventually led the remaining five tribes to another war between themselves anyway. You’d think these guys would be sick of killing their own kind by now, but our own human history shows how untrue that assumption is. Apparently, there used to be seven lizard tribes, but due to a shortage of food - and probably other reasons I didn’t pick up - a bunch of them went to war. I never thought I wanted to learn about the history of the lizardmen, but here we are. Ah well, it’s not like the lizardmen are all that endearing anyway. And for what? Just for Ainz to subjugate them? Sheesh. Having said that, I don’t think he’s going to wipe the lizardmen out, but a lot of these scaly dudes are going to die. As I said in last week’s post about Overlord, I never felt as though he was as villainous as advertised in the first season. I guess this is the first time where I truly feel as though our spooky skeleton boy is acting like a villain. So the Great One is obviously Ainz, and sitting at the front of that army is none other than Cocytus. That evil ball of faces warns the lizardmen that the Great One will send an undead army to slay them in eight days. Rather, the story picks up exactly where it last left off. And by that, I mean heavy characterization or symbolism. After all, it’s not exactly heavy on the stuff that really gets me going. So I’ve been sitting here for the past hour trying to figure out how I’m supposed to cover this week’s episode of Overlord II. It is possible to halt a script sequence at any point. Each step in a parallelized has its own scope. Using an infinite loop that runs till the right time is satisfied. Before ECMA Script 5, we had only two ways of introducing delays in JavaScript. One such thing is totally covered by SitePoint in their article, Delay, sleep, pause, wait etc in JavaScript. The company sent a written communication to its pilots, which has warned of ‘strict action’ if they continue to delay their license renewal formalities. There is a huge debate of using delays in JavaScript.
Cellphones light up as photos of the daring white cat and the anomalous moving chair go viral. Sota Munakata chases the mischievous cat, his wooden legs pumping furiously, as Suzume follows behind.Ĭontemporary technology is as embedded in the story as ancient folktales. Later, in Suzume’s room as Sota Munakata explains his role, the cat materializes on the windowsill, speaks to them and turns the Closer into a three-legged chair. When the girl picks up the keystone holding back a door that rises from the midst of a shallow pond in an abandoned resort (suggesting the closed districts around the Fukushima nuclear plant), the cold grey stone turns into a warm furry cat and scurries away. Suzume follows suit with imaginative storytelling and animation. He thinks he’s got it down but turns out he needs some help from plucky Suzume.ĭirector Makoto Shinkai achieved great success in Japan and elsewhere with his previous films, Your Name and Weathering With You. In only the most obvious nod to Japan’s Shinto tradition, he invokes “the divine gods who live beneath this land” as he struggles to keep the doors shut, to forestall new catastrophes. He identifies himself as the Closer, who task it travel across the nation closing doors, preventing disaster. Suzume stumbles upon a handsome backpacking young man, Sota Munakata. In Suzume, the Worm is a destructive force from beneath the Japanese islands, held at bay behind closed doors. It's not too wide a leap to interpret the plumb-colored “Worm” that rises from the Earth and covers the sky, triggering seismic shocks, as an allusion to the towering mushroom clouds of 1945. Japan’s cities were consumed by American firebombing in an aerial campaign that climaxed with the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Suzume was released by the legendary Toho, the studio behind Godzilla and an unending string of films that encapsulate and personify the national trauma of destruction during World War II. The latest anime feature to fill big screens in the U.S., Suzume, follows its titular adolescent girl-protagonist on an adventure to save Japan from destruction. Anime won’t elbow Disney out of American multiplexes, yet the Japanese answer to animation has grown a global audience with millions of avid fans.

The term ‘countdown’ refers to backward counting, which indicates the time remaining before an event is scheduled to occur. So, I want to do three things this morning. My specific concern with this paper is to convince everyone that audio documentary is fully worthy of study both in conjunction with visual documentary, that is as part of audiovisual work, and in its own right as a form that bears very strong resemblances to the aesthetic and practical issues of visual documentary, especially in its cinema and video forms. Yet we both thought it was an important part of the documentary tradition and experience, and, full story be told, that audio recording precedes cinematic recording. This panel began with a conversation between Derek Paget and myself at the last Visible Evidence conference about how especially, with the rise of visual culture studies, audio was being lost track of. Those of you who were able to attend the Monday afternoon workshop on community based media organizing, as well as yesterday afternoon’s panel on socially committed work, will see many connections to what I’m saying here. Tom, this is a terrific tribute to the long history of the Visible Evidence conferences. I want to personally thank the organizers of the conference for a wonderful event, so thoughtfully and industriously organized. This is a presentation I made at the 12th Visible Evidence Conference in Montreal in August 2005 on a panel I co-chaired with Derek Paget titled, “Listen Up! The Sound of Documentary.” I’ve decided to keep the spoken word tone and rhetoric for print publication because it conveys a key point about audio/oral delivery. MOOZ's editors independently choose recommendations. “They can frequently be found under rocks and debris in abandoned agricultural areas and grassy meadows, and under logs in and along the edges of woodlands,” Whit Gibbons wrote in his book, Snakes of the Eastern United States. These snakes live in both forested and more open habitats. These sites may include stone walls, barns, or basements. Milksnakes survive our northern winters by retreating into hibernacula. The snake’s range extends south into Georgia and as far west as Oklahoma. However, unlike rattlesnakes, eastern milksnakes lack a physical rattle and are non-venomous.Įastern milksnakes live throughout the Northeast, except in the uppermost reaches of Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. When a milksnake vibrates its tail very quickly in dry leaves, it sounds very similar to the noise of a rattlesnake’s rattle. Milksnakes can sometimes be confused for rattlesnakes due to their tapered tails and quick tail movements. Milksnakes in our region tend to be more brown-colored, while western milksnakes are reddish in hue. Normally 2 to 3 feet in length, some milksnakes may grow to 4 feet or more, and the average size reported in Vermont is 40 inches, according to the Vermont Reptile and Amphibian Atlas. A light-colored Y- or V-shaped marking on a milk snake’s head points toward its tail. The eastern milksnake ( Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum) is brown or gray with red-brown blotches on its back and a black-and-white checkerboard pattern along its belly. Milksnakes are secretive and largely nocturnal. This was my first encounter with the species, and while I spotted another milk snake two years later, I might be hard-pressed to see one again. I knew this wasn’t a gartersnake, a familiar visitor to my garden, and later identified the reptile as a milksnake. Covered in colorful splotches, it quickly slithered across the pavement and out of sight. Walking down my road on an early June afternoon several years ago, I spotted a snake attempting to cross into the underbrush. As examples, in California this helps provide clean drinking water, and in Michigan, it protects rare birds. that have various needs for reforestation. **** After enrolling, they can choose to have a tree planted where there is the greatest need - or they can choose between regions of the U.S. To opt in to paperless billing and activate the tree planting, AT&T customers can go to and follow the instructions. PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - AT&T Launches Promotion With The Arbor Day Foundation To Plant Trees On Behalf of First Million Customers Who Switch To Paperless Billing in 2010 That's definitely a bit on the short side for $10, but time isn't the only measure of a good piece of Tomb Raider content. This is probably going to take you about an hour and a half to complete, possibly an hour longer if you hunt down all the treasures and the hidden relic. Still, Beneath the Ashes is a solid addition to the game's core qualities, with production value to match. It's ok, i respect your opinion, even though i think the underworld was still lot better than the new tomb raider. The last survivor of the Lux Veritatis Society, Kurtis Trent, is stalking Lara and is hiding a deep dark secret about his true nature. I tried it again recently with a visual walkthrough, but honestly I found it like walking though tar. Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003) Framed for the murder of her former mentor, Werner Von Croy, Lara explores Paris and Prague in an attempt to clear her name and solve the murder. I started Underworld a while ago, and got to the first big puzzle in Bhogavati and gave up. However I am no fan of the puzzles in Tomb Raider games. You didn't like that much tomb raider:underworld. It's on sale now and I am wondering about buying it. It's not as wretched as most have deemed it (flying kicks and grenades!), but the frequency of enemy encounters here feels a tad too high in a game where fighting already. The new tomb raider game it's more like a survival game than anything else, there's almost no puzzle solving in that new and different game. In the category of things not excelled at: the combat. The new crypt-beneath-crib locale may not be as fantastic as those visited in the original game, but it preserves the lonely atmosphere and exciting verticality that the series has always excelled at. Beneath the Ashes expands on that very puzzle, with Lara's grappling hook put to good use in securing several such surprisingly sensible solutions. We spend so much time suspending our belief that it comes as a bit of a shock when a video game tasks us to do something that would totally work in real life. The rest of it - a large, unexplored environment, a new enemy and some fresh puzzles - should appeal to those who see beyond Lara's figure and appreciate a game of clockwork exploration and platforming.ĭo you remember that puzzle in Underworld's Southern Mexico level, the one where you had to use your taut grappling line to push a block off a pillar? Calling it a puzzle might be a bit of a stretch, but it stood out to me as one of the most logical maneuvers in the entire game. Unsurprisingly, the gaudy garment, no doubt picked up at a tacky souvenir shop on Normandy Beach, represents the more adolescent additions offered by Tomb Raider Underworld's first DLC episode, Beneath the Ashes. It's that she's willing to do it all in a camo bikini. It's not the fact that she's willing to clamber, crawl and cartwheel through the decrepit crypt, her collapsed mansion as its gravestone, that makes me fret about her mental health. Sure, the bloody vendetta against endangered animals and that egregious contempt for ancient pots were both neon-lit warning signs, but the writing on the walls has never been so clearly etched as on those found in her latest raid-worthy tomb. |
